A Kenya coast private tour: where it makes a difference
A Kenya coast private tour pays off most where the distances are long. Haller Park sits on the Mombasa to Malindi road, while Fort Jesus stands at the southern edge of the Old Town. A private vehicle ties the two into one day without waiting for a group. The safaris are the other case: you spend two days in a pop-top vehicle that carries only your party, so everyone has a view through the roof.
Prices are from November 2026. For a family of four adults, that means $496 for the city day, $1,660 for the Tsavo East overnight and $2,360 for the Salt Lick overnight.

A private city day and two private overnight safaris, with what each one includes.
Private city tour: Fort Jesus and Haller Park
This is a seven to nine hour day with a private transfer there and back. Both entries are included: Fort Jesus, the Portuguese fort built between 1593 and 1596 and a World Heritage site since 2011, and Haller Park, the reclaimed quarry with giraffes and tortoises. A guide covers each stop, and lunch at a restaurant at the fort comes with water and one soft drink.
At $124 per person, it suits couples and families who want the two best-known stops of Mombasa in one comfortable day. Two people pay $248, four pay $496.
Private Tsavo East safari from Diani or Mombasa
The two day Tsavo East safari costs $415 per person. It covers the pop-top safari vehicle, Tsavo East entry, the transfer from Diani or Mombasa and one night at Voi Wildlife Lodge, with lunch, dinner and breakfast. Water is included; other drinks, snacks and tips are extra.
It fits friends and couples who want a proper game drive rather than a long day in the car. Two pay $830 and a group of four pays $1,660. Our Tsavo East guide explains the gates and what to expect on the drive.
Private Salt Lick overnight safari
The Salt Lick safari costs $590 per person and runs from hotels in Mombasa and Diani. It includes a night at Salt Lick Lodge, a pop-top vehicle, the meals listed in the itinerary, park entries and water in the vehicle. For children under five, the operator offers Taita Hills Lodge instead.
A surcharge of $40 per person applies from 23 December 2026 to 1 January 2027, which brings the price to $630. Outside those dates, two people pay $1,180 and four pay $2,360.
Private or small group: when sharing is better
For a first look at Mombasa, the three hour Old Town walk with a guide costs $36 per person and the full day city tour with Haller Park $60. Choose these if you only want a guided walk and have no need for a private transfer or lunch.
The private safaris cost more per head than the day trips, and that gap buys a night in the park region and a vehicle for your party alone. See all coast options in our tour comparison, or read about Fort Jesus and Haller Park first.
